Adaptive Sports Jamboree of Washington
held annually in Seattle
As an
annual fund-raiser, our Kiwanis Club participates with another Kiwanis
Club to work as turn marshals at Seattle International Raceway
for the Pacific Northwest Porsche Club. We have members stationed
at each turn to watch for safety issues and report problems during
the event. This was an unusual event, as the events are normally Porsche
owners that participate in Driver Education. At
one of our turnworker events at Seattle International Raceway,
Mario Andretti showed up to give some rides to auction winners

In partnership
with local law enforcement agencies and hospitals, Chief For
A Day is about celebrating the lives of children who have
been diagnosed with a chronic illness. It’s also a celebration
of life for us all. Fifteen children were given a day that focused
on their dreams, not their illnesses. It allowed us all to become,
for a day, a part of some special children’s lives.

Each
child was transported in limousines by police motorcade to the WSCJTC.
In addition to each child having a hand-tailored uniform from their
sponsoring agency, each child was sworn in as “Chief”
or “Sheriff” for the day. After the swearing in ceremony,
the new Chiefs and Sheriffs then experienced outside presentations
made by local law enforcement agencies including K-9 units, mounted
patrol, SWAT, rifle units, a police helicopter, and more.
The
event was held on Thursday, May 11, 2006. The motorcade arrived
between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Lieutenant Governor Brad Owen
kicked off the swearing in ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Lunch was held
from noon until 1:00 p.m., and the outside presentations were held
from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
